Obile handed down the sentence on Monday, May 26, 2025, following Deele’s conviction on a three-count charge of impersonation and advance fee fraud. The charges were brought against him by the Port Harcourt Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).According to the EFCC, Deele was arrested in April 2025 in the Eneka axis of Port Harcourt, following credible intelligence linking him to fraudulent online activities. Investigations revealed he specialized in romance scams, using Facebook and Telegram accounts created with the image of a U.S. woman, Jenifer Annoson, to deceive and extract money from unsuspecting victims, including a male U.S. citizen named Anthony.During the court proceedings, EFCC counsel E. Abbiyesu presented incriminating documents and called Abdulazeez Jafar, an EFCC operative, as a witness. Jafar testified that Deele impersonated women online to lure victims and gain financial advantage. Deele pleaded guilty to all charges and admitted to the crimes in a written statement made in the presence of his lawyer.Justice Obile, after considering the guilty plea, the evidence, and the plea for leniency by Deele’s counsel B.I.O. Egwu, sentenced him to four months imprisonment or a fine of N300,000. Additionally, the court ordered the forfeiture of his Tecno Spark phone to the federal government and mandated that he swear an affidavit of good behaviour.
