This transformative blueprint is anchored on four strategic pillars:1. Road infrastructure and connectivity2. Economic development with focus on industrial zones and commercial upgrades3. Sustainable urban expansion4. Resilience to flooding — a long-standing challenge in the regionThis ambitious plan aims to reposition Aba as a model commercial city in Nigeria and beyond.5. Healthcare: Expanding Access and Strengthening Emergency ServicesThe Abia State Social Health Insurance Scheme has surpassed 91,227 enrollees, prompting SEC’s approval to extend coverage to the informal sector in the upcoming second phase.In a major boost to specialized healthcare delivery, a fully equipped Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is now operational at the Abia State Diagnostic Centre, Umuahia. The state also reports zero cases of mpox, diphtheria, cholera, or Lassa fever.Under the ‘Project Ekwueme’ initiative, the fourth Primary Healthcare Centre (PHC) will be commissioned this Friday in Ngwu, Bende LGA, marking steady progress toward the target of 200 functional PHCs across the state.6. Housing: Groundbreaking for New EstatesThe state is set to hold groundbreaking ceremonies for four new housing projects:a. Valley View Estateb. Mgbarakuma Estatec. Mbaisii Estated. Obehie EstateAdditionally, four more estates under Phase 2 are already under development, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to addressing housing needs.6. Education Infrastructure: ABSU Power and Hostel UpgradesPhase 1 of the power restoration project at Abia State University (ABSU) has been completed, with parts of the campus now reconnected to electricity. Hostel renovation is also nearing completion, with electrical and plumbing works finalized.7. Security: Action in UmunneochiFollowing recent incidents in Umunneochi, security agencies have been fully mobilized to restore order. The government is activating all components of the state’s security architecture to ensure the safety of residents.8. Power Sector Reform: Abia Takes ChargeIn a landmark move, the state has initiated the legal and regulatory process to transfer electricity oversight from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to the newly established Abia State Electricity Regulatory Authority (ASERA). This will enable Abia to independently manage power generation, transmission, distribution, and metering.9. Water Supply: Aba Water Scheme Rehabilitation BeginsFulfilling Governor Otti’s promise to the people of Aba, the state will soon flag off the rehabilitation of the Christ the King Cathedral (CKC), Aba Water Scheme.
