The event wasn’t just about sports—it was also used to educate the public about pest control and its link to public health.Organised to commemorate World Pest Day 2025, this was the second edition of the tournament, following its debut in 2022.Raising Health Awareness Through SportsDr. Tolu Caleb, CEO of Rotimax Integrated Services and the Rotimax Pest Control Training Academy, said the event aimed to spread awareness of how pest control plays a critical role in public health.“Pest control is part of public health, and public health is arguably the most important issue after security,” Dr. Caleb said.He emphasized that small changes—like avoiding stagnant water or using mosquito nets properly—can drastically reduce malaria and other pest-related diseases.“We are as important as doctors because our work helps prevent disease,” he added.Cockroaches Can Trigger AsthmaAshabi Abbey-Dollar, CEO of Pest Masters International, warned about the dangers of ignoring common pests.“Cockroaches shed feathers that become airborne and can trigger asthma, especially in children,” she explained.“People see pests as normal, but they’re not. We must manage them to the lowest acceptable level.”Friendly Rivalry and Future PlansOn the table, Femi Bamishile dominated once again, while the event’s fun \"Organisers Challenge\" saw Dr. Caleb defeating Abbey-Dollar in a best-of-five match.Dr. Caleb revealed that the event will expand next year into a full games tournament, possibly including football and other activities—not just table tennis.
