Title: Remi Tinubu Appeals for Lasting Peace in Plateau, Donates N1bn to Violence Victims Date Published: 03 July 2025 Description: The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called on elders and stakeholders in Plateau State to take decisive steps toward restoring and sustaining peace across the region. Her appeal came during a visit to the state alongside her Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) team to show solidarity and offer support to victims of recent violent clashes.According to a statement from her media aide, Busola Kukoyi, Senator Tinubu described her mission as one driven by compassion and a desire to see an end to recurring crises in the state.“I came in as a mother whose heart bleeds. I assure you this is the last time I would have to visit the State for this kind of intervention. And I pray God will honour this,” she said emotionally.Recounting a heartfelt moment upon arrival, she recalled a little girl at the airport who welcomed her to the “land of peace and tourism,” a description she said she earnestly hopes becomes the true reality of Plateau State.Addressing the men of the state, the First Lady urged them to prioritize the safety of women and children, allowing them to continue their livelihoods in peace—especially farming and trading. “Whatever it takes, bring peace to this land,” she implored.Senator Tinubu also encouraged the youth to reject violence and embrace unity and patriotism, citing the second stanza of the National Anthem which calls on Nigerians to hand over a “banner without stain” to future generations. As part of her humanitarian support, the First Lady, through the Renewed Hope Initiative, donated ₦1 billion to victims of the violent conflicts in addition to food items and clothing. In response, Plateau State Governor Barr. Caleb Mutfwang expressed gratitude and promised that the funds would be used transparently and fairly. “I take full responsibility for the funds you have brought to us. We will disburse it to those who it is meant for and no elite will highjack it,” he assured. The event was attended by the Wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima; members of the Plateau State Council of Traditional Rulers; religious leaders; market associations; youth groups; and representatives of the security agencies.
