Title: Senate Clears Ambassadorial Nominees After Screening Date Published: 12 December 2025 Description:  By Gist Political DeskABUJA — The Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs on Thursday screened and cleared a new batch of ambassadorial nominees submitted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, including several former ministers, ex-governors and other prominent public figures.Among those approved were former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode, former Interior Minister Abdulrahman Dambazau, former presidential aide Reno Omokri, former INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu, former Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, former Abia State Governor Victor Okezie Ikpeazu, Senator Ita Enang and Senator Grace Bent.The committee conducted the exercise in line with its long-standing tradition in which some nominees are asked to “take a bow and go” after introducing themselves. Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele defended the practice, saying the Senate often applies it to individuals with extensive public service records.Fani-Kayode and Dambazau were among those who received swift clearance, having previously undergone Senate screening for ministerial positions.A brief disagreement, however, occurred during the appearance of Omokri. Senators Adams Oshiomhole and Mohammed Ali Ndume clashed over whether comments should be allowed before clearing the nominee. Committee Chairman Senator Abubakar Sani Bello intervened to restore order, after which the screening proceeded.The confirmation process is part of a broader diplomatic reshuffle initiated by President Tinubu, following earlier submissions that included several other nominees.With the committee’s approval, the names have been forwarded to the full Senate for final confirmation. Once ratified, the nominees will be assigned to foreign missions where they are expected to represent Nigeria’s interests and strengthen diplomatic relations.
