Title: Abia Govt Seals Glo Offices Over Alleged ₦4bn Tax Default Date Published: 13 February 2026 Description: The Abia State Government has sealed offices of telecommunications company Globacom Limited in Umuahia and Aba over the alleged failure of the firm to remit more than ₦4 billion in taxes to the state. The enforcement action was carried out by the Abia State Internal Revenue Service (ABIRS) pursuant to an order of the High Court of Abia State, Umuahia Judicial Division. In a statement issued on Thursday, ABIRS Deputy Director of Information, Mrs Emelle Akunna Loveth, said the action followed Court Suit No. HU/225M/2025 between the Abia State Internal Revenue Service and Globacom Limited. She explained that by a court order dated January 14, 2026, Globacom was directed to pay ₦4,048,748,880, representing unremitted Right of Way withholding taxes and other statutory tax liabilities accrued between 2010 and 2022. The court also ordered the company to pay interest at the rate of 10 per cent per annum on the outstanding sum until full settlement.According to the statement, the court further granted a distraint order on Globacom’s goods, chattels and premises within Abia State, empowering ABIRS to recover the debt and, where necessary, sell distrained properties after 14 days in line with the Abia State Tax (Codification and Consolidation) Law, 2020.Mrs Loveth said the sealing of the offices was a lawful step taken strictly in compliance with the court’s directives, stressing that the state government remains committed to due process and the enforcement of tax laws. She added that the Abia State Government expects all corporate organisations operating within the state to fulfil their statutory tax obligations, noting that ABIRS remains open to engagement with Globacom once the company fully complies with the court order.
