Title: Tinubu Tasks Disu On National Security, Pledges Full Support Date Published: 25 February 2026 Description: President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has charged the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to restore peace and strengthen security across the country, assuring him of full presidential support in the discharge of his duties.The President gave the charge on Wednesday at the State House, Abuja, during the decoration of Disu as Acting Inspector-General of Police, following the retirement of Kayode Egbetokun and pending ratification by the Nigeria Police Council and confirmation by the Senate.President Tinubu said the appointment was based on Disu’s track record, recalling his performance while serving in Lagos State during Tinubu’s tenure as governor.“I made this decision for you to assume this responsibility. I know your record. I saw the dedication you exhibited while you were in Lagos when I was governor,” the President said.Describing the appointment as coming at a critical time, Tinubu urged the Acting IGP to rebuild public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force and to work closely with other security agencies to effectively discharge the force’s responsibilities.He charged Disu to lead with firmness and fairness, demand professionalism at all levels and prioritise the protection of lives and property nationwide.“Lead firmly but fairly, demand professionalism at every level and ensure that the safety of lives and property remains our highest priority. It’s a daunting challenge. I know you can do it. You have my word, you have my full support,” Tinubu added.The President further tasked the Acting IGP to advance the security pillars of his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, expressing confidence in Disu’s discipline, operational experience and leadership capacity.“Nigeria is challenged with banditry, terrorism and other criminal activities. You will be part of the thinking and innovation to overcome them,” Tinubu said, while reaffirming his belief that the country would prevail under committed leadership.President Tinubu also paid tribute to the outgoing Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, who was present at the ceremony with his spouse, commending his contributions to the maintenance of law and order.“To the outgoing Inspector-General, we are a grateful nation. Nigeria appreciates your contribution to maintaining law and order,” the President said.He urged Egbetokun to remain available to offer useful advice to his successor and wished him and his family peace, good health and success in future endeavours.“You have not succeeded without a good successor.
