Title: Zamfara Deputy Governor Defects to APC as PDP Flag Removed from Government House Date Published: 10 March 2026 Description: The flag of the Peoples Democratic Party was on Monday pulled down at the Zamfara State Government House following the announcement by the state’s deputy governor that the administration had defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress.The Deputy Governor, Malan Mani Mummuni, disclosed the development after a State Executive Council meeting in Gusau, stating that the decision was taken after consultations with key stakeholders across the state.Mummuni, who was elected alongside Governor Dauda Lawal on the PDP platform during the 2023 general elections, is currently acting as governor while Lawal is in Saudi Arabia performing the Lesser Hajj.Addressing officials at the Government House, the acting governor said PDP stakeholders in Zamfara had resolved to align with the APC following deliberations on the political situation in the state.Following the announcement, the PDP flag was removed from the Government House premises, symbolising the administration’s shift to the ruling party.Sources within the Government House said Mummuni subsequently held a closed-door meeting with members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly to brief them on the development.Confirming the move, the Director General of Media and Communications at Government House, Gusau, Salihu Anka, said the cabinet of Governor Lawal had defected to the APC.In a statement later issued by the deputy governor, he said the defection was carried out on behalf of Governor Lawal after extensive consultations with political leaders and stakeholders in the state.According to him, the decision was reached during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Rescue Hall within the Government House in Gusau after a broad engagement process initiated by the governor.He explained that the move was influenced by the lingering internal crisis within the PDP as well as the need to promote unity and consensus in tackling Zamfara’s security and development challenges.Mummuni added that stakeholders had strongly advised the governor to align with the ruling party’s development agenda in the interest of stability and progress.He further urged supporters and political stakeholders across Zamfara State to begin registering with the APC through the party’s e-registration platform to strengthen the party’s structure in the state.
