Former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, will on Friday, April 11, 2025, commission the newly reconstructed 45-kilometre Umuahia–Uzuakoli–Akara–Alayi–Abiriba Road in Abia State.

The road project, which has long been awaited by residents and commuters, is a major infrastructural achievement under the administration of Governor Alex Otti. According to a statement signed by the state’s Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, the commissioning ceremony will take place at Unity Evangelical Church, opposite Uzuakoli Central Market, by 1:00 PM prompt.

Described as a “transformational milestone,” the project is part of the Otti-led government’s drive to modernize Abia’s road network, enhance rural-urban connectivity, and stimulate economic growth. The road links several key communities including Umuahia, Uzuakoli, Akara, Alayi, and Abiriba, promising improved mobility and access to services for residents and businesses alike.

“This road is more than just a transportation link; it’s a lifeline for trade, commerce, and rural development,” the statement read, highlighting the governor’s commitment to delivering quality infrastructure that uplifts the lives of Abians.

The Abia State Government has extended an open invitation to stakeholders, traditional rulers, political leaders, community groups, youth and women organisations, development partners, and the general public to attend the historic commissioning.

The presence of Chief Obasanjo at the event is expected to add a layer of national significance to the occasion, underscoring the importance of infrastructure in national development.

Governor Otti and his administration see the project as a symbol of a new era in Abia State—one marked by action, impact, and people-centered governance.
