Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Plateau State have arrested an unidentified man allegedly found with a firearm within the premises of a church in Bokkos Local Government Area.

The arrest, which occurred around 8:30 a.m. on Sunday during a routine patrol, is being hailed as a proactive move that may have averted a potential security breach in the area.

Security expert and counter-insurgency analyst, Zagazola Makama, who disclosed the development via his verified X handle, commended the swift response of the NSCDC operatives. He noted that the suspect could not provide any valid explanation or legal documentation for the weapon found in his possession.

“The suspect was found in possession of a gun and could not provide any satisfactory explanation or legal documentation for it,” Makama stated. “The swift action of our operatives helped prevent what could have escalated into a serious security breach.”

Makama emphasized the importance of the intervention, particularly in Bokkos, a community already vulnerable to security threats, including attacks by armed groups and recurring communal unrest.

Authorities have yet to release the suspect’s identity, pending the outcome of preliminary investigations. As of press time, efforts to reach the NSCDC for an official statement were unsuccessful.

Bokkos, located in the central part of Plateau State, has experienced periodic violence over the years, including attacks on rural communities and clashes between various groups, making security vigilance a top priority in the region.
