NAFDAC CRACKS DOWN ON ABUJA SUPERMARKET OVER BANNED GOODS, COUNTERFEITS

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has shut down a popular supermarket in Abuja\'s upscale Maitama district after uncovering a stash of banned, fake, and unregistered products.

Trouble started when NAFDAC inspectors, during a routine visit, discovered shelves stocked with prohibited items, including unregistered pet foods, banned imported soaps, and suspiciously re-bagged rice. The agency immediately invited the supermarket’s management for questioning — but they refused to show up.

Not taking the snub lightly, NAFDAC sent in an enforcement team for a follow-up raid. The operatives reportedly faced stiff obstruction from the supermarket staff but still sealed the premises and confiscated the illegal goods.

The agency announced the development on its official X handle on Saturday, April 26, vowing to clamp down harder on businesses dealing in unapproved and counterfeit products.

“Regulatory compliance is not optional. Businesses must play by the rules or face the consequences,” the statement warned.

NAFDAC’s latest action sends a strong message to retailers nationwide: the era of cutting corners is over.
