A planned wedding ceremony at Assemblies of God Church, Okpu 2, Aba, Abia State, ended abruptly after the bride-to-be reportedly refused to spend the night before the wedding at the church’s parsonage.

The church leadership, citing longstanding marriage traditions, cancelled the event even as guests had already arrived for the ceremony.

According to information posted by journalist Promise Uzoma Okoro, the Assemblies of God Church mandates brides to sleep at the host pastor’s residence on the eve of their wedding. This practice, church sources say, is to facilitate a blood pregnancy test a few hours before the ceremony.

However, in this case, the bride declined to stay at the parsonage, leading to the immediate cancellation of the wedding plans.

The incident has sparked widespread debate, with many questioning the necessity and relevance of such a policy in today\'s society.

Efforts to get an official response from the church authorities at the time of filing this report were unsuccessful.
