True to his promise, Governor Alex Otti has flagged off the total reconstruction of the Abia State General Hospital, Amachara, signaling a bold new era for healthcare delivery in the state.
Demolition of the old structures at the hospital site is nearing completion, paving the way for the foundation work of a brand-new facility. The Amachara General Hospital is among several hospitals across the three senatorial districts selected for full reconstruction and retrofitting under the Otti administration’s aggressive healthcare reform plan.
Sharing updates after the State Executive Council meeting on Monday, Ferdinand Ekeoma, a government official, described the scene at Amachara with visible excitement. “I smiled on beholding the onslaught going on there. I was very happy and felt the same way I feel whenever I see Governor Otti fulfilling any of his numerous promises to Ndi Abia,” Ekeoma said.
Governor Otti’s government has pledged to tackle the revitalization of the health sector with \"unbelievable speed and seriousness,\" targeting not just primary healthcare centers and general hospitals, but also pushing forward with the landmark Abia Medical City project.
Ekeoma further hinted that a detailed breakdown of the plans for the New General Hospital Amachara will be made public soon, emphasizing the government’s commitment to building from the foundation up rather than making cosmetic changes.
