Controversial street-hop singer Habeeb Olalomi Okikiola, aka Portable, has been slammed with a three-month prison sentence for assault and conspiracy by a Chief Magistrate Court in Ifo, Ogun State,
The judgment, delivered on Tuesday by Chief Magistrate Babajide Ilo, comes nearly two years after Portable was accused of beating up a man, one Osimosu Emmanuel Oluwafemi, and being involved in the theft of music equipment.
Portable was first arraigned back in April 2023 on a three-count charge — conspiracy to commit a felony, unlawful assault, and theft of items including a Yamaha H55 studio monitor, Studio 2 interface cable, and an AKG P420 condenser mic. The alleged incident reportedly happened on November 18, 2022, at Okeosa, Ilogbo, within the Ifo Magisterial District.
Although granted bail for N300,000 with two family sureties, the singer repeatedly snubbed court hearings, forcing the court to remand him and eventually proceed with the trial.
In a judgment that shook fans and critics alike, the court found Portable guilty of conspiracy and assault, sentencing him to one month in prison (with an option of N10,000 fine) for Count 1, and two months in prison (or N20,000 fine) for Count 2. He, however, escaped conviction on the third count — theft.
With a total of N30,000 fine, Zazu Zeh can dodge jail time — but whether he’ll pay or serve remains to be seen.
