The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has officially affirmed the Executive Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, as the leader of the Party in the state following his recent defection to the APC.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, April 30, 2025, and signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Ebata Valentine Onojeghuo, the Party made it clear that Governor Oborevwori’s new role as leader of the Delta APC is final and non-negotiable.
\\\"The position of the governor as the leader of the Party is consistent with our tradition and structure nationwide, where the sitting governor of a state under the APC becomes the leader of the Party in that state,\\\" the statement read.
This declaration comes in the wake of Governor Oborevwori’s official defection to the APC on Monday, April 28, an event attended by top Party leaders, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, who, according to the statement, publicly affirmed the Governor’s leadership role.
The Party described as “strange, arrogant and reprehensible” any attempt by individuals to claim the position of Party leader in Delta State, warning that any such actions would not be tolerated.
\\\"Any such posture would amount to a deliberate act of provocation and a source of avoidable tension within our Party ranks,\\\" the statement added, noting that such tendencies will be “firmly resisted” and would attract \\\"severe sanctions\\\" from the Party.
Calling for unity, the Delta APC urged all members and stakeholders to close ranks and support Governor Oborevwori\\\'s leadership under his M.O.R.E. Agenda.
\\\"Delta APC is solidly behind His Excellency as our leader, and we recognize no other individual in that role,\\\" the statement concluded.
The Party reiterated its commitment to the delivery of good governance in the state and warned against any divisive actions that could derail ongoing progress.
