Popular Nigerian social critic and influencer, VeryDarkMan (VDM), is reportedly in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), sparking public concern and raising questions about the circumstances surrounding his arrest.
Confirming the development, his lawyer and lead partner at Deji Adeyanju and Partners, Barr. Deji Adeyanju, disclosed in a statement posted on his verified Meta handle that VDM was arrested alongside a friend and is currently being held at the EFCC facility.
“VDM DETAINED AT EFCC: Our lawyers led by the Head of our firm, Barr. Marvin Omorogbe, just met VDM’s friend who was arrested together with him in EFCC custody. VDM refused to come out of the cell; that he won’t see anyone,” Adeyanju wrote.
He further alleged that officials of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) played a controversial role in the arrest. “VDM was locked inside the GTB exit door for over 5 minutes to enable EFCC arrest him and his friend,” he stated.
Describing the action as inhumane, the legal team has vowed to take legal action against the bank. “We will be taking legal actions against GTB for the inhumane treatment meted out to our client,” Adeyanju added.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the EFCC nor GTBank has officially responded to the claims.
