OTTI UNVEILS ELECTRIC BUS REVOLUTION, EXPOSES IKPEAZU'S N29M WASTE ON PORT HARCOURT ROAD

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has once again stolen the spotlight—this time with a bold declaration of a new era in public transport and a dramatic exposé on past government waste.

At a vibrant thanksgiving carnival held in Aba and aptly themed “Promise Kept”, the Governor announced the rollout of 20 electric buses in the next two months as part of a cleaner, modern transportation system. The move signals a radical departure from decades of stagnation in the state’s public infrastructure and is already stirring conversations nationwide.

But the electrifying headline of the day wasn’t just about buses—it was about bold facts and sharp numbers. Addressing the crowd at Umuagbai Secondary School, Otti threw a punch at the opposition with data: the past administration spent $29 million equivalent on Port Harcourt Road in 2017—with nothing to show for it—while his government delivered the long-abandoned road at a lesser cost of $22.8 million.

> “USD29 million was spent and no road was done. In 2025, USD22 million was spent and a standard road is delivered,” Otti stated to roaring applause.

The Governor didn’t stop there. He took the opportunity to paint a future-forward picture, stating that the incoming electric buses—completely petrol- and diesel-free—mirror the kind seen in advanced countries. He emphasized that Abia will be the first state in the South-East to deploy such a fleet, setting a precedent in clean transportation.

Meanwhile, Aba residents, business leaders, and politicians alike used the moment to celebrate what they described as “the dawn of a new Abia.” The reconstructed Port Harcourt Road, long regarded as a symbol of government failure, has now become the centerpiece of a success story.

The Governor also rewarded a local keke rider with ₦1.4 million for returning a forgotten sum of ₦2.4 million to its rightful owner—a gesture that further cemented the day’s message: integrity and impact are back in style in Abia.

Prominent voices like Senator Darlington Nwokocha and Speaker Emmanuel Emeruwa hailed the Governor’s achievements as evidence of purposeful leadership. Members of the Aba business community and Landlord Association declared the celebration a vote of confidence, stating Governor Otti has already campaigned his way into a second term—simply by doing the work.
