In a decisive move to curb police misconduct, the Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, has ordered the arrest of seven officers for extortion and unprofessional conduct during a statewide checkpoint inspection on June 17, 2025. The arrested officers were caught along major highways, including the Owerri–Onitsha, Owerri–Port Harcourt, and Owerri–Umuahia routes.

The arrests follow a wave of public complaints over harassment and unethical practices by some field operatives. CP Danjuma, who personally led the inspection, warned that any officer found guilty of extortion or intimidation would face strict disciplinary action, including dismissal and possible prosecution.

Reaffirming zero tolerance for corruption, the CP also engaged with motorists and commuters, warning against giving bribes or surrendering phones for unauthorized searches. He distributed emergency contact numbers for the Command’s X-Squad and Complaint Response Unit, encouraging the public to report any misconduct confidentially.
