The Nigeria Police Force has rescued 31 kidnapped victims in two separate operations carried out in Edo and Taraba States.
According to a statement by Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the operations took place on July 11 and 12, 2025, and were marked by swift response and courageous engagement with the kidnappers.
In Edo State, police operatives rescued 14 victims who had been abducted along the Fugar-Agenebode Road in Etsako East Local Government Area. The victims were freed following a fierce gun battle between the police and the kidnappers near Obe Hill, forcing the abductors to flee.
A day later, in Taraba State, operatives responded to a distress call along the Wukari highway, rescuing 17 passengers travelling from Enugu to Yola. The kidnappers reportedly fled upon sighting the approaching security forces.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, commended the bravery and professionalism of the officers involved, assuring Nigerians of the Force’s unwavering commitment to dismantling criminal networks across the country.
“These successful rescue operations reaffirm our resolve to secure the lives and property of Nigerians. The Police will continue to intensify efforts to rid the country of kidnapping and other violent crimes,” the IGP said.
The rescued victims are said to be in stable condition and have been reunited with their families.
