The Federal Government of Nigeria has dismissed recent remarks by U.S. President Donald J. Trump alleging widespread killings of Christians in the country and calling for Nigeria’s designation as a “Country of Particular Concern.”

In an official press release issued on Saturday, November 1, 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that President Trump’s assertions do not reflect the reality on ground, stressing that Nigerians of all faiths coexist peacefully nationwide.

The statement reaffirmed the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to combating terrorism, strengthening interfaith harmony, and safeguarding the rights and lives of all citizens.

Nigeria further pledged continued constructive engagement with the United States to deepen understanding of regional security dynamics.

While Nigeria appreciates global concern for human rights and religious freedom, these claims do not reflect the situation on the ground. Nigerians of all faiths have long lived, worked, and worshipped together peacefully.
