The Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, Hon. Charles Wobodo, has announced a ban on the operation of motorcycles in Igwuruta community, following rising security challenges in the area.
The decision, according to the council chairman, is aimed at curbing criminal activities and restoring public safety in the community.
Under the directive, the restriction will take effect from Thursday, February 12, 2026, and will run daily between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. for a period of one month.
Hon. Wobodo noted that motorcycles have been identified as a major means used by criminals to perpetrate unlawful acts, especially at night, thereby necessitating the temporary ban.
He urged residents and commercial motorcycle operators to cooperate with security agencies to ensure the success of the measure, stressing that the safety of lives and property remains the top priority of the local government administration.
The chairman also warned that anyone found violating the order would be dealt with in accordance with the law, while assuring that the ban would be reviewed at the end of the one-month period based on the prevailing security situation.
