The Federal Government of Nigeria has begun evacuating willing Nigerians from Iran, escorting them across the border into Armenia as tensions escalate in the Middle East.

Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, disclosed this in a post on Tuesday, stating that officials of the Nigerian Embassy in Tehran are coordinating the evacuation.

According to her, embassy officials are escorting Nigerians who wish to leave Iran safely across the Armenia border to ensure their secure passage.

Dabiri-Erewa added that no Nigerian in Iran has so far been affected by the ongoing tensions, while embassy personnel remain stationed at the border to receive and assist those being evacuated.

She explained that the evacuation is being carried out in collaboration with Armenian authorities as part of the Nigerian government’s efforts to safeguard its citizens abroad during emergencies.

The move, she said, underscores the government’s continued monitoring of developments in the Middle East and its commitment to the safety and welfare of Nigerians overseas.
