The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially published the Notice of Election for the 2027 General Elections at its Rivers State office, in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022.

The notices, displayed at the commission’s office premises, signal the formal commencement of the electoral process ahead of the 2027 polls and are issued pursuant to Section 30 of the Electoral Act, which mandates INEC to give public notice of elections not later than 360 days before the date fixed.

The published notice outlines key elections scheduled for 2027, including the presidential, National Assembly, and state-level elections, with dates corresponding to those earlier announced by the commission in its official timetable.

INEC’s action in Rivers follows its nationwide rollout of statutory notices across states of the federation, a move aimed at ensuring transparency, legal compliance, and early stakeholder engagement in the electoral process.

On February 16, 2026, Independent National Electoral Commission released the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 General Elections, fixing February 20, 2027, for the Presidential and National Assembly elections, and March 6, 2027, for the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly polls.

At the time, INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, said the early release of the timetable was intended to provide political parties, aspirants, and other stakeholders sufficient time to prepare and comply with electoral guidelines.

The commission also announced deadlines for party primaries, submission of candidates’ names, voter registration activities, and campaign periods, stressing that adherence to the timetable would be strictly enforced.

The publication of the Notice of Election at the Rivers State office represents the next procedural step following the release of the timetable, effectively activating the legal framework for the conduct of the 2027 polls in the state.

INEC has repeatedly assured Nigerians of its commitment to conducting free, fair, and credible elections, urging political parties and voters to abide by the Electoral Act and the commission’s guidelines as preparations intensify.
