President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged Nigerians, particularly Christians and Muslims, to use the solemn seasons of Lent and Ramadan to promote peace, unity, and national stability.
In a State House press statement issued on Wednesday, President Tinubu noted that the commencement of Lent and Ramadan on the same day was a rare occurrence, describing it as a powerful reminder of the shared values that unite Nigerians across religious lines.
“With profound reverence to God Almighty, I greet the Christian and Muslim faithful on the solemn occasions of Lent and Ramadan,” the President said, stressing that the coincidence highlights the common spiritual foundations of faith, sacrifice, and devotion shared by both religions.
Tinubu explained that Lent, for Christians, is a season of fasting, abstinence, and penitence, modelled after the example of Jesus Christ in the wilderness before His crucifixion. He added that the period calls Christians to deep reflection and renewed commitment to godly living.
For Muslims, the President described Ramadan as a sacred period marked by total submission to God, sacrifice, devotion, service, and communal love. He noted that beyond fasting, the holy month encourages spiritual reflection and obedience to the core principles of Islam, as it represents one of the five pillars of the faith.
Calling on Nigerians to draw strength from these observances, President Tinubu urged citizens to practise good neighbourliness, foster peaceful coexistence, and pray for the progress and security of the nation.
“Let us live by the good precepts of our faiths and be honourable in our duty to God and fellow humans,” he said.
The President prayed that the lessons, blessings, and spiritual benefits of Lent and Ramadan would abide with Nigerians and contribute to national harmony and moral renewal.
The message was signed by President Tinubu in his capacity as President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria
