Rep Chimaobi Atu Donates Smart Mobile Science Labs to Enugu Secondary Schools
In a bold move to revolutionize science education in his constituency, Chimaobi Atu, the member representing Enugu North/South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has donated three state-of-the-art mobile smart science laboratories to local secondary schools.
The beneficiaries of this initiative are:
Comprehensive Secondary School, Akwuke
Community Secondary School, Ugwuaji
Day Secondary School, Independence Layout, Enugu
The donation, which included full renovations and lab installations, was unveiled on Tuesday and Wednesday across the three schools.
A Vision for Future Scientists
Rep. Atu said the idea stemmed from his visits to public schools where he found most science labs were either dilapidated or completely absent.
“We discovered that most of the science laboratories were in terrible condition or non-existent,” Atu noted. “That inspired us to act.”
The mobile labs are equipped to conduct over 220 major science experiments in alignment with the SSCE curriculum, offering students hands-on experience in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields.
“This is just the pilot phase,” Atu said. “Our plan is to extend this innovation to all 24 remaining public secondary schools in the constituency. We want to make lasting impacts—ones that future generations will remember.”
Widespread Appreciation from Schools and Community
The initiative has been met with enthusiasm and gratitude from educators, students, and community leaders.
Mrs. Stella Ogbonnia, Principal of Comprehensive Secondary School, Akwuke, praised the gesture:
“I’ve never seen anything like this. It’s truly commendable and will inspire more students to embrace science.”
Mrs. Nneoma Okoro, a science teacher at Community Secondary School, Ugwuaji, described the lab as a “game-changer.”
“Our students can now engage with science practically. It’s a more interactive and exciting way to learn.”
Students Speak Out
Students shared their excitement and appreciation for the new learning tools.
“I love science, and now I can actually conduct experiments myself. It’s more fun and helps me understand better,” said Emeka Onyeji, a student at Day Secondary School.
“I used to struggle with some science topics, but now I can see and do them. This will help me compete globally,” added Chiamaka Nwosu, a student at Comprehensive Secondary School, Akwuke.
Collins Okoro, Senior Prefect at Community Secondary School, also thanked the lawmaker:
“We’re truly grateful to Rep. Atu for thinking of us. These labs will improve our performance and help us achieve more.”
Traditional Leaders Join in Support
Igwe C.A. Ekwomchi, the traditional ruler of Akwuke Uwani, applauded Atu’s commitment to education and pledged community support:
“We will ensure that these laboratories are well maintained. Rep. Atu has shown real dedication to the future of our children.”
