In a press statement signed by the Forum’s Acting Chairman, His Excellency Alabo Dr. Gabriel Toby, the respected elder statesmen expressed gratitude to God and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for facilitating the peace process, which they said offers a renewed chance for progress and stability in Rivers State.

The Forum recalled its earlier efforts to mediate the political crisis between the two leaders and the Rivers State House of Assembly, expressing regret that their initial calls for dialogue went unheeded, which necessitated their appeal to the President for intervention.

“It was a sad development that deeply wounded the soul of our dear state and cast an undeserved shadow on our collective image, unity, progress, and prosperity,” the statement read.

While the Forum commended the reconciliation, it cautiously noted that the specific terms of the agreement remain undisclosed. Nonetheless, it expressed hope that the resolution is firmly grounded in the Nigerian Constitution and the principles of the rule of law.

Reaffirming its neutrality, the Forum emphasized that its only interest has always been the welfare of Rivers State and not political gain. “We seek no personal gain, political favour, or reward. Our sole desire is to see our state thrive,” it stated.

In a significant appeal, the Forum urged the Federal Government to lift the State of Emergency reportedly imposed on the state and ensure the full restoration of all suspended democratic structures.

“The will of Rivers people should be respected, and the institutions of democratic governance must be allowed to function freely and transparently,” it added.

The statement concluded with a passionate call to all citizens and political actors in Rivers State to view this moment as a new beginning — one defined by mutual respect, unity, and a shared commitment to rebuilding the state.

“Let Rivers State rise again in pride and purpose. Let us never forget that our strength lies in our unity, shared heritage, and destiny,” the Forum declared.

The Rivers Elders and Leaders Forum has long been regarded as a stabilizing voice in the state\'s political landscape, and their latest intervention reinforces growing calls for sustainable peace and responsible leadership across the state.
