The national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Wadata Plaza, Abuja, remained sealed on Monday despite assurances by the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led National Caretaker Committee that the office would be reopened.

The committee had earlier suggested that the secretariat would resume operations following consultations with electoral authorities and internal party stakeholders. A PDP faction aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, had also announced plans to reopen the facility after the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) quarterly meeting with leaders of political parties.

The faction expressed confidence that administrative and political activities would return to normal at the party’s long-closed national headquarters.

However, a visit to the secretariat by a News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent showed that the premises remained inaccessible. The complex, located in Wuse Zone 5, Abuja, was still locked, with no sign of staff or party officials.

Heavy security remained in place, with coils of razor wire barricading the access road and perimeter fence, effectively blocking the main entrance gates. Police patrol vehicles and armed officers were also stationed around the building.

A security operative at the scene, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said no directive had been given to either withdraw or ease security around the facility.

The Nigeria Police Force sealed the PDP national secretariat on November 19, 2025, following violent clashes between rival factions of the party’s leadership. The crisis pitted the Taminu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) against the factional leadership headed by Abdulrahman Mohammed.

While PDP National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, had indicated that the secretariat would reopen on Monday, the Turaki-led NWC cautioned against such a move, citing pending court cases.

The NWC warned that reopening the secretariat while litigation is ongoing could amount to contempt of court.
