Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has reportedly promised automatic return tickets to members of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly who agree to defect with him to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to a report by BusinessDay Newspaper, Governor Eno made the offer during a closed-door meeting with commissioners, special advisers, permanent secretaries, and delivery advisors at the Government House on Thursday.
The Governor is said to have assured the lawmakers that those who join him in switching parties will be rewarded with guaranteed tickets to contest for re-election in 2027 under the APC platform.
This political move comes amidst reports that some lawmakers had allegedly demanded ₦250 million each as a condition for their defection, citing uncertainty about their political future should they leave the People\'s Democratic Party (PDP).
While Governor Eno’s specific response to the financial demand remains unclear, BusinessDay notes that strong indications suggest the Governor is opting to use political incentives—particularly the promise of return tickets—as leverage to secure loyalty.
The development signals rising tension and realignment within Akwa Ibom’s political landscape as 2027 approaches, with potential implications for both state and national politics.
