Ijaghala Community Declares Ijaw Identity, Traces Ancestry to Gbaramatu Kingdom

In a bold and historic affirmation, the people of Ijaghala (Zougha-alagha) community have officially declared themselves as Ijaws of Gbaramatu Kingdom, tracing their roots to Oporoza, the ancestral headquarters of the ancient kingdom.

Speaking on their heritage, the community leaders explained that while many members of Ijaghala speak Itsekiri, it is due to the lineage of their ancestral mother, who was Itsekiri — but their bloodline remains Ijaw through their progenitor from Oporoza.

As part of their cultural reaffirmation, the community pledged full allegiance to His Royal Majesty, Oboro Gbaraun-II, Aketekpe, Agadagba, the Pere of Gbaramatu Kingdom, recognizing his authority and reaffirming their unity with the larger Ijaw nation.
